The introduction of stand-alone boutiques at the Pacific Place and Times Square malls in Hong Kong signalled a greater presence for the brand in the region, and challenged Atelier Pacific to space plan, interior design and project-manage their implementation. Louis Vuitton HK Ltd. - Hong Kong, China & Korea
1999-2010
The Hong Kong, China and Seoul Louis Vuitton flagships were redesigned as concept stores using Atelier Pacific’s valuable expertise on the ground. The global store design concept by Peter Marino Architects in New York is rigorously managed by a dedicated in-house team who subsequently rely on Atelier Pacific to individualize the design in terms of the production of extensive construction details and project manage the large team of consultants and specialist contractors on site. There are pertinent nuances from one store to another. At Canton Road (Hong Kong) the work was complicated by the construction of a new double-height volume and the comprehensive remodeling of its façade. Aside from complex restructuring work, the architectural design had to satisfy both Louis Vuitton and the building owner. In Shanghai, the long, shallow dimensions of the site called for a more rigid sequence of zones and hence a stronger ceiling treatment to unify the space. This is accentuated at the store entrance through the use of LV’s iconic ‘damier’ checkerboard pattern.
Macau International Airport - Macau
2007-2009
The Macau International Airport, which is strategically located as the gateway to the Chinese Pearl River Delta region, serves as an important link between this region and other points in Asia and beyond, and with Macau’s rapid economic growth (primarily due to the expansion of Macau’s gaming and entertainment industries), the airport will undoubtedly serve as an important and vital gateway for inbound tourism. Additionally, the airport is expected to serve as a hub for low-cost airline services.
CAM-Sociedade do Aeroporto Internacional de Macau, who are the owners of the Macau airport, embarked on a commercial development plan to redevelop and expand the commercial areas in the terminal building so as to maximize airport and commercial operator profits while also enhancing passenger service levels so that they are provided with an experience that is unique among all airports in Asia. The intention is to implement an integrated “Asian contemporary” design that creates a strong “sense of place” which unique, warm, bright and inviting and at the same time, quiet and connected to nature. Atelier Pacific was the Lead Design Consultant for this project.

The site consists of four distinct lots (which may be developed at different stages) and includes shopping arcades, hotels, hotel apartments, casino and various entertainment facilities. The total retail area for the combined site lots is almost 100,000 sq.m., over three floors, so a clearly designed retail centre scheme is required to ensure its success.
